Title:                 Plant MRO Buyer        
Location:           Chicago - Southwest Suburb

Company Information:  200 employee division of large manufacturer and distributor of food products.  Location:  Chicago-Southwest Suburb.

Position Information:  The Plant MRO Buyer will provide all non-inventory items (utilizing cost effective practices) for the operation of the division.  Identifies and selects potential sources of supply.  Monitor vendor performance.  Collaborate in establishing purchasing policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities:

  • Procure all non-inventory items, MRO supplies, capital equipment, bulk gases, chemicals, maintenance and service contracts, and all outsourcing agreements
  • Provide sourcing of supplies for employees to aid in determining their needs
  • Review inventory levels, adjust safety stocks and adjust minimum / maximum levels to maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials
  • Issue requests for bids / quotations to ensure competitive quoting process is adhered to
  • Evaluate competitive offerings and determine overall best offer for a product or service
  • Implement and maintain standardization programs
  • Identify and/or select potential sources of supply
  • Act as a liaison between vendors and production for faulty supplies, coordinate all returns and repairs
  • Track costs associated with defective materials and charge back suppliers
  • Collaborate in establishing purchasing policies and procedures
  • Monitor vendor performance
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies involving price, quantity or service
  • Maintain relationships with Corporate Personnel by providing information as requested
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Controller

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree (A.A. or A.A.S.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school OR 1 – 2 years manufacturing buying experience in a plant environment
  • Good Oral Communication Skills:  speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, participates in meetings
  • Attention to Cost Saving Measures:  work within approved budgets, develop cost saving measures, demonstrate knowledge of the market and competitors
  • Self-initiative:  ability to work within a team as well as independently, demonstrate follow through on commitments, seek increased responsibilities, look for and take advantage of opportunities
  • Flexibility:  must be able to manage many things at once and prioritize work.  Must be able to handle the many interruptions that come in throughout the day.
  • Good Interpersonal Skills:  possess the ability to interact effectively with people across all levels of the organization.
  • Computer Skills:  Word, Excel, Access.  SAP and Heiler a plus.
